In a wheelchair It is undeniable that the historic center of Florence, like so many other places rich in history, can present some objective difficulties for visitors with reduced mobility. Actually moving from one place of interest to another is not always the easiest (in the oldest part of the city sometimes the sidewalks are narrow and the surfaces of both streets and sidewalks are not always linear). In this regard, it can be useful to consult Kimap, the App that shows the routes to follow in the historic center to avoid architectural barriers. To download the app: Apple Store, Google Play. You can also consult the Accessible Map of Florence or collect it at our infopoints.
By bus and tramway All AT and Tramway buses are accessible and have dedicated stations: the former have a platform with a lowerable floor, while the latter have no difference in height between the platform and the entrance to the car. Info on routes, schedules, tickets: www.at-bus.it and www.gestramvia.com
By cab Florence has several cabs equipped to transport people in wheelchairs. It is always recommended to make reservations, either by phone or app, well in advance. There are 2 companies: So.Co.Ta. (Tel. +39 055 4242) and Co.Ta.Fi (Tel. +39 055 4390). Disabled passengers using the cab service have a 15 % reduction on common fares.
By train For information on disabled accessibility/assistance in Florence stations: www.rfi.it /Disability - tel. +39 02 323232 (from landline and mobile) or 800 906060 (from landline). Firenze Santa Maria Novella Station: assistance services can be requested in person at the Sala Blu (Platform 5) or by phone up to 1 hour before train departure/arrival time. Email: SalaBlu.FIRENZE@rfi.it By Air There are a variety of services dedicated to people with disabilities at the Florence airport and it is possible to receive assistance by informing the Airline/Travel Agency/Tour Operator with whom you booked your trip well in advance. Once on the ground, it is necessary for passengers to announce themselves at the airport via external call stations or at check-in, at least 1 hour in advance, in order to be accompanied to the departure of the flight. For detailed information both Florence Vespucci Airport and Pisa Galileo Airport.
