The Setteponti route largely originated from the ancient Roman road Cassia Vetus. An important link between Fiesole and Arezzo, it was part of the journey of many pilgrims and merchants traveling to Rome. Today it is possible to retrace its steps and visit Romanesque churches, historical villas and villages with panoramic views.
Part of the Setteponti route runs through Reggello and the surrounding area. Starting from Donnini, you can drive along the SP86 to reach the parish church of San Pietro a Pitiana (open on request) and then the church of Sant'Agata in Arfoli near Pietrapiana. The Sant'Agata municipal road then leads to the church of Santa Margherita a Cancelli, while the SP85 leads to the Reggello’s old town up to the Pieve di San Pietro a Cascia and the Masaccio Museum of Sacred Art. On the SP17 and then the SP1 Setteponti you'll arrive in Pian di Scò. On the way, a beautiful panorama opens up and you'll be able to overlook Villa di Mandri, a historic villa as well as a national monument. The route continues and winds through parish churches and villages in the province of Arezzo until you reach Ponte a Buriano, just outside town.
Along the Setteponti route you are invited to travel slower and admire the landscape dotted with olive groves, vineyards and terraces overlooking the valley where the Balze canyons preserve the memory of the prehistoric lake.
