Teatro Comunale Garibaldi
The Municipal Theatre of Figline e Incisa Valdarno, named after GiuseppeGaribaldi, was built near the 14th century walls of the "cassero" on a design by the architect Angelo Pierallini and on the initiative of a company of shareholders, the Accademia dei Risorti, chaired by the Count Alfredo Serristori, who inaugurated in 1869 the conversation rooms by organising there a big ball. It was then bought in 1878 by some Figline citizens who founded the Accademia dei Concordi.
The first concert was held on April 16 1872 with a performance of the "Ernani" opera by Giuseppe Verdi, while on June 7 1884, the first drama "Arduino d'Ivrea" by Stanislao Morelli, was staged.
The Garibaldi theatre, active until 1957, after a period of neglect and the subsequent restoration, was reopened on October 7 1995; since then, with its neoclassical ornamental style, it hosts every year a drama season and a concert season, as well as several other side events. Between stalls and boxes it has a total of 490 seats.
Useful informations
From the main entrance of the Teatro Garibaldi (Piazza Serristori, 99) you can directly access the foyer where, via the stairlift, you can reach the two boxes with reserved seating for the disabled.
The theatre staff provides assistance and is available for every possible need.
