Via Francigena a Gambassi Terme

The Via Francigena in the Valdelsa area

In the past the Via Francigena led pilgrims from Canterbury to Rome, then to Santa Maria di Leuca, in order to set sail towards the Holy Land. Nowadays it lives again as a hike, accompanying anybody who wishes to know places differently and at a slower pace.

The region of Tuscany is crossed by the Via Francigena, starting from the Passo della Cisa Apennine pass up to Radicofani, in the province of Siena; the whole Tuscan stretch can be covered on foot in 16 legs.

Surrounded by the wonderful landscape of the Valdelsa area, among Castelfiorentino, Montaione, Certaldo and Gambassi Terme you also cross the metropolitan territory of Florence, with its hills, cypresses, ancient parish churches and abbeys, castles and charming hamlets.

Useful information, travel tips and GPS tracks to walk the Via Francigena in Tuscany are available in the dedicated section on the Tuscany official tourism website Visit Tuscany.
