Shy society by Drift in Florence

The exhibition dedicated to Helen Frankenthaler is currently underway in Palazzo Strozzi, but the exterior of the historic building also holds surprises.
In fact, as part of the Palazzo Strozzi Future Art programme, one can enter the ground floor to admire a spectacular site-specific installation created by the Dutch duo Drift just for the courtyard: the title is Shy Society.
The work is inspired by some flowers that open and close depending on the light and day-night phases. This phenomenon induces the visitor to reflect not only on the concept of beauty, but also on the idea of adaptation to the environment by all forms of life.

The square of the courtyard, which is the heart of Palazzo Strozzi, comes alive with impalpable presences arriving from above, accompanied by music. A multisensory experience that arouses wonder, that is changeable and immersive.
Drift is the duo of artists Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta, active since 2007 in the Netherlands; the music is by RZA, an American rapper, record producer and composer.

Access to the courtyard is free.
