The fantastic world of monsters in Japanese tradition, through marvellous works from the 18th and 19th centuries, including still unpublished antique prints, rare books, masks, and weapons and armour! This is YŌKAI, the new exhibition at the Museo degli Innocenti scheduled from 13 June to 3 November 2024.
The entire exhibition is dedicated to the imaginary yōkai, made of places, spaces, feelings and sensations that hide anxieties, fears and desires that are alive, real and material.
The exhibition opens with an immersive room that makes the public relive the experience of the traditional test of courage of the samurai of the Ritual of the Hundred Candles; it then continues with an excursus on the fantastic world of monsters in the Japanese tradition, documented by the marvellous works of the 18th and 19th centuries, including antique prints still unpublished, rare books, masks, and weapons and armour on loan from the Stibbert Museum in Florence.
A rich calendar of side events for children and adults is scheduled, and participation is free of charge for exhibition ticket's owners. More info on the exhibition website.
