Monumento all'Indiano

Monument to the Indian Prince

Indian Prince Rajaram Chuttraputti was 20 years old, travelling from London to his home; he stopped in Florence at the Grand Hotel in Piazza Ognissanti in November 1870.

Suddenly he died. According to the Hindu rite, the ashes of his body, cremated, were to be dispersed at the confluence of two rivers.

For this, a spot was chosen at the end of the Cascine park, where the Arno and Mugnone rivers join, and in that same place a small temple was erected in memory of the young Prince, by the sculptor Fuller. The place has always been called the Indian.
