When visiting Florence, use sustainable transportation: the best choice in respect to the environment, society and economy.
Aiming to sustain soft mobility, the Municipality of Florence is currently enhancing public electric transportation creating new tramway lines. The cycling path of Florence is still developing but it’s already one of the most widespread in Europe. The city center (enclosed in the ZTL - Restricted Traffic Zone) is quite small and flat, making it possible to move easily on foot or by zero-impact transportation, like bikes and electric kick scooters. At this link you can find out more about the always-growing free-floating sharing system.
The pedestrianization of the city center is still progressing (it started more than ten years ago from Piazza del Duomo), as is still being developed the cycling path that will one day run along the whole length of river Arno, from its source to its mouth. Both these projects are going to make Florence a better, people-oriented city.
