Romano Fine Art

Active since: 1969
Areas of interest: Antiques; sculpture, paintings, drawings, antique furniture and décor items

Mattia and Maria Novella Romano represent the fourth generation of a family of antiques dealers. Since 1999 we have been working with our father Simone in the Ottaviani gallery in Florence, which was established in 1969 on the elegant and prestigious Piazza Ognissanti. Here we interact with the artistic world of experts, collectors and amateurs, specialising in paintings, sculpture, drawings and applied arts. Since 2005 we have been especially interested in drawings, and since 2011 we have participated in the most important international fairs, such as the Florence International Antiques Fair (BIAF), Modenantiquaria, Master Drawings in New York, London Art Week (LAW), the Parisian Cercle des Beaux-Arts Rive Gauche and the renowned Salon du Dessin. We curate detailed catalogues of drawings, in collaboration with established scholars and art historians. We are thankful to our great-grandfather Salvatore, who donated a museum to the city of Florence in 1946, and to our grandfather Francesco, one of the founders of the Italian Antiquarians Association (AAI) in 1959; today we are following the family tradition with the same spirit and principles. In November 2019, Maria Novella was elected to the executive board of the AAI. Our clients include museums, foundations and private collectors, both Italian and foreign.
