Locally known as Terza Punta, the top of Poggio Casaccia (921 meters above sea level), is one of the three peaks of Monte Morello, the mountain massif that dominates in height the landscape of the Florentine plain. The other two peaks are Poggio all’Aia (935 meters) and Poggio Cornacchiaccia (896 m).
A popular destination for trips and excursions, the top of Poggio Casaccia consists of a large grassy clearing, carved out from the coniferous forest that covers much of the mountain; in the centre of the clearing there is a large metal cross, which is visible from Florence.
Among the peaks of Monte Morello, Poggio Casaccia is the second in order of altitude, and the first in importance given the panoramic view that the summit offers over Florence and the Florentine plain.
