Glass production in Florence has been active since the Renaissance; there were many glass workshops inspired by Venetian craftsmen, summoned to the Medici court.
The shapes, models and colours are of clear Murano matrix and the glass for domestic use was soon flanked by a scientific glassworks, made of stills and thermometers, still kept in the windows of the Museo Galileo.
At the beginning of the century Florence recovered its tradition and today there are some artistic glassworks of excellence, renowned all over the world.
