Following the renovation of the La Specola Museum, the mineralogical collections were transferred to its historic location on Via Romana, where they can now be viewed by the public once again.
It houses about 50,000 specimens of rocks and minerals from around the world, plus various artistic objects made from cut and polished stones that came from the Medici collections, including goblets in jasper and jade once belonging to Lorenzo the Magnificent. There are also about 80 specimens of meteorites.
The exhibit is displayed in such a way to make minerals attractive for children of all ages
