The Ceramics Museum was established to house locally produced Medieval and Renaissance ceramics found in an old well (the Pozzo dei Lavatoi) in the upper part of historic Montelupo, where items with defects produced in nearby kilns were thrown.
Research has uncovered about 300 pieces, making it possible to learn more about ceramics manufacturing in Montelupo from the 14th to the 19th centuries. There is an extensive collection of Renaissance majolica ware.
