March 25th - Annunciation Day - holds a special significance in Florence, marking not just a date on the calendar, but the celebration of “Capodanno Fiorentino”, the Florentine New Year.
To celebrate the event, in addition to the traditional Historical Parade of the Florentine Republic, which will depart at 3:15 PM from Palagio di Parte Guelfa, the location where the famous Easter Cart, known as Brindellone, is kept will be exceptionally open to the public. Between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, explanations will be provided about the various parts that compose it and its operation.
Both events are free and open to all.
A parade, leaving from Piazza di Parte Guelfa (h. 3.15 pm) to Piazza SS. Annunziata, celebrates this tradition.
Procession's route: Via Pellicceria, Piazza della Repubblica, via Brunelleschi, via dei Pecori, piazza San Giovanni,Piazza del Duomo, Via dei Servi, Piazza SS. Annunziata.; coming back, at 4.30 p.m.: Via Dei Servi, Piazza del Duomo, Via Calzaiuoli, Via Porta Rossa, Via Pellicceria, Piazzetta di Parte Guelfa.
