From 5 September, a photographic exhibition at the Oblate Library will celebrate the figures of two great Tuscans: Fosco Maraini and Tiziano Terzani.
The digitised photographs from the Terzani Archive and the Municipality of Molazzana and the Maraini Archive, kept by the Vieusseux circle and Alinari, explore the themes of travel vs. settling , the physical places of dwelling and going, the journey within the self and on the written page, the overcoming of one's physical and mental boundaries, and the discovery of the self and the other.
The exhibition is held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the death of the two writers and the 700th anniversary of the death of Marco Polo and is curated by the National Association of Memory Houses in collaboration with Biblioteca delle Oblate and BibliotecaCaNova Isolotto. It is part of the calendar of the Festival of Florentine Cultural Associations.
The opening of the exhibition will take place in the Sibilla Aleramo Room of the Library, with speeches by Angela Terzani Staude, Mieko Namiki Maraini, Claudio Rosati (Simndea), and Antonia Ida Fontana president of the Centro Associazioni Culturali Fiorentine.
Musical performance to follow.
On display, 66 digital images reproduced from the originals that trace an overview of the places in the East and Far East - with their characters, situations and customs - where the two authors lived, worked and travelled, restoring the perception of how Terzani and Maraini experienced them.
The exhibition continues at the BiblioteCaNova dell'Isolotto from 23 September to 16 October.
