The new exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi is dedicated to the works of Helen Frankenthaler, one of the most important American artists of the 20th century.
A key figure in the second generation of post-war American abstract painters, Frankenthaler (1928-2011) played a fundamental role in the transition from Abstract Expressionism to so-called Colour Field Painting.
The exhibition will run from 27 September 2024 to 26 January 2025.
Frankenthaler's works will be juxtaposed with works by artists contemporary to her, some from her personal collection, such as Anthony Caro, Morris Louis, Robert Motherwell, Kenneth Noland, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, David Smith, Anne Truitt.
