From 3 December 2024 to 25 March 2025 in the Winter Refectory of Santa Croce, the exhibition The Blooming Cross and the Stigmata of Francis. A journey through texts and images in Santa Croce.
Dedicated to the depiction of the miracle of the Stigmata between the mid-13th century and the first half of the 14th century, the exhibition proposes a selection of paintings and manuscripts linked to the Franciscan basilica in a narration that ideally continues in the church and convent of Santa Croce, recounting the evolution of the iconography of the Stigmata with particular attention to the figure of the 14th-century painter Taddeo Gaddi, in the light of his contribution to the visualisation of the themes dear to Franciscan spirituality.
