From December 2, 2020 Uffizi Galleries enrich their offer to improve accessibility for people with disabilities: thanks to the collaboration with the Ente Nazionale Sordi users will be able to access the video descriptions of the masterpieces of the Uffizi Gallery in the Italian Sign Language (LIS).
These videos present the masterpieces of the Uffizi with brief explanations and essential information for each visit, which can be enjoyed by any device (smartphone, tablet, and pc or smart tv) simply by connecting to the website or YouTube channel of the Uffizi Galleries, therefore available for both in-presence and remote visits.
The masterpieces by Gentile da Fabriano, Masolino and Masaccio, Piero della Francesca, Paolo Uccello, Sandro Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti are currently available in LIS with Italian subtitles and they will soon be available in ISL (International Sign Language) version with English subtitles as well..
The Uffizi Galleries' offer for an audience of people with hearing disabilities is completed by videos entitled Parole Chiave which will be periodically posted on the institutional Facebook channel and consisting in explanations of various artworks having one word in common and commented by a LIS interpreter.
The initiative of the Uffizi goes to complete the already large offer of Florentine museums dedicated to the deaf.
