giardino dell'Iris

The Iris Garden

The Iris Garden is an enchanted place, high above the city. Established in 1954 to host an annual International Competition for the best Iris varieties, it is located in a strategic location, where one can enjoy both the beauty of nature and the view of Florence, and is only open one month a year, at this time of year.

The choice of Florence is significant because this flower - and not the lily, as is mistakenly believed - is the emblem of our city. Incredible is the variety of irises that can be admired, in infinite shades of colour.
The garden's surface area of about two and a half hectares alternates between meadows, olive groves and irises.

The Iris Garden is open daily, until 20 May, with free admission.
Details on opening hours can be found on the specific page.
