A tour proposal by Patrizia Vigiani, City of Florence Guide.
The city of Pontassieve, originally known as Castrum Sancti Angeli de Ponte Sevis is located not far from Florence, where Sieve and Arno rivers meet. Although the ancient fortification has mostly disappeared, parts of the ancient walls, with three of its original gates, still stand.
The tour begins just outside the walls, in the area where Pontassieve’s castle once stood. From there we will reach Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and admire the church of San Michele Arcangelo and Palazzo Sansoni-Trombetta. Heading towards piazza XIV Martiri, titled in memory of the victims of the massacre that took place on the 8th June 1944, we will finally get to the panoramic terrace over the river with a view on the Medici Bridge, symbol of the city, built in 1555 on Cosimo I’s orders.
Enjoy this trip through art, history, memories and traditions.
