Folon and the Rose Garden

In one of the most scenic spots in the city is the Rose Garden. In addition to the splendid varieties of roses and other flowers, the poetic statues of Folon meet in the garden.

After a memorable exhibition in Forte Belvedere, the link between the Belgian artist Folon and the city of Florence remained strong. Folon died in 2005 but his expressed desire, to be in some way always present in Florence, was made by the widow, Paola Ghiringhelli, who decided to donate ten bronze sculptures and two of her husband's plaster casts to the Municipality of Florence permanently exposed right at the Rose Garden, under Piazzale Michelangelo, a real balcony overlooking the historic center.

The Garden best welcomes Folon's works, recreating the magic that he had been able to arouse with the exhibition and re-proposing that panorama effect, that facing the city expressly sought and obtained by the artist.

Again, and this time without time limits, you will be able to look through the large suitcase, Partir, the unique panorama of Santa Maria del Fiore and Palazzo Vecchio; we will rest next to the man from Folon on the bench outside the time of Je me souviens; Chat, the cat sleeping on the grass among the rose bushes, will be caressed; we will refresh ourselves at the Vivre and Mediterranée fountains or in a shady corner near 25ème Pensée, an enigmatic Folonian figure with his head lost among the vegetation; and finally, together with L’Envol, it will once again be possible to fly over the city and admire it from above.
