Free guided tours, unusual and off-the-beaten-track itineraries (also in the countryside), inclusive and accessible proposals for everyone, promotion of local crafts, etc. There are many projects that the Municipality of Florence, following a public call for tenders and thanks to an important funding from the Ministry of Tourism ("Great Italian Destinations for Sustainable Tourism" site in Italian), is promoting for an increasingly sustainable tourism, also in terms of delocalisation and deseasonalisation of flows. More in detail, the measures of the Call for Proposals envisage various declinations of our destination: Unusual Florence, Out of Season, Accessible, Green & Clean, and other projects to enhance the urban fabric. Here is a summary of some of the projects in progress or about to start:
Tram-e d'arte: a tourist project using the Tramvia as a means of transport to discover a lesser-known Florence (the districts of Isolotto, Novoli and beyond), thanks to a rich programme of free guided tours, in English as well!
Ti racconto Firenze/Narrating Florence 31 free guided tours (from 10 March to 21 June) to discover another Florence; thematic routes (between music and literature, collecting and antiques) in the city's five districts. From September 13 a series of very interesting free guided tours in English!
In the outskirts of Florence, in the district number 5, some walks are scheduled for Un'altra Firenze (Another Florence). Organised by Centro di Creazione e Cultura APS two walks in interesting and lively suburbs: on May 14 and on May 20 and a new edition on October 28.
After the summer holidays some guided visits (with theatre performance) will be ready; the topic are churches, the Italian title is Chiese, chiesine, chiesone e chiesette: four churches in the city center and around starting from September 30 until December 2. Schedule here.
Firenze insolita, (Unusual Florence) XX century itineraries organised by Associazione Apab: free guided tours off the beaten tracks of Florence. Starting on March 18 until Autumn.
A fourth edition for Camminate Fiorentine (Florentine walks) by Associazione Città Sostenibile. On three Saturday mornings October 7, 14 and 21 there will be walking tours on the hills above Oltrarno, in an astonishing landscape close to the city center. Find the scheduled events here
Female forerunners in the monumental Florentine locations where they lived and worked: this is the summary of Palace Women Oltrarno and beyond, the project of the Cultural Association Il Palmerino and the British Institute of Florence. Various events (music and lectures both in Italian and English), an exhibition and guided tours are part of the programme. It starts on 29 September, for two months. Find out more in the event page..
Firenze insolita fra arte, bellezza e fede (Unusual Florence in art art, beauty and faith ) are a series of scheduled workshops by Fondazione Arte Sacra Contemporanea. They start in April, in Autumn there will be concerts and visits in churches of the city.
Three different venues host the Florence Guitar festival. VI edition. Meetings, concerts and a luthiery exhibit everything in the sign of guitar. The meetings are for free. From October 12 to 15, programme on this page.

Accessible Florence: s series of free guided tours for disabled persons, starting from March 4.
Paesaggiando are a series of walks through urban and rural landscapes in and around Florence: 4 scheduled walks on April 15 - May 13 in Italian; on September 28 and 29 in English.
Not guided tours but free concerts and film projections: Musart Rewind in on piazza Brunelleschi, a secluded square, close to the more famous Piazza Santissima Annunziata. Scheduled events in July.
The events of the war in the last years of WW2 1943- 1944 are the issue of these itineraries. Passeggiate nella Firenze della Liberazione (Walks through the Liberation of Florence). These itineraries have been organised by the Tuscan Historical Institute of the Resistance in collaboration with Regola d'Arte Cultural Association.
