City of Florence Guide Sara Gazzeri proposes some interesting itineraries for adults, and also for families with children.
1) The Cenacoli: the term “cenacolo” derives from the Latin word “caenaculum” which means “dining room” and is used to indicate the representation of the “Last Supper”. In many ancient convents of Florence, decorations in the refectories - where monks had their meals - were usually inspired by this biblical theme. This itinerary will focus on the most interesting examples of "Cenacoli" in the city to find out how different artists, like Andrea del Castagno and Domenico Ghirlandaio, chose to depict the same scene.
2) Family-sized Florence. Florentine animals and where to find them: this itinerary through the city center has been designed for children aged 4 through 8 years old in order to have them find the animal statues scattered around Florence. Marzocco Lion, “Porcellino” (wild boar), dragons, sheep, horses, aquatic animals and bees… keep your eyes open, little explorers, don’t miss any of them! The presence of an adult is required.
3) Following Brunelleschi’s steps: this itinerary focuses on Filippo Brunelleschi’s architectures in the city. The Spedale degli Innocenti, San Lorenzo Church, Santa Maria del Fiore’s Dome, his masterpiece, and also Santo Spirito Church, in Oltrarno district. Brunelleschi’s genius can be appreciated throughout the entire city center.
