August 10 is the feast of Saint Lawrence, patron saint of Florence together with Saint John the Baptist (June 24).
As per tradition, during the morning (starting at 10am) the historical parade of Repubblica Fiorentina leaves Palagio di Parte Guelfa to wind through the city center and reach San Lorenzo church, first Cathedral of Florence (before Santa Maria del Fiore). where the ritual of the candle offering will be presided by the Archbishop.
Later, in the evening, on the pavis of the church, there will be dancing, music and from 9pm… free lasagne and watermelon for everyone! And when the time comes, look up, wait for a shooting star and make a wish.
San Lorenzo complex also includes the very famous Medici Chapels. Don't miss, always in the area Palazzo Medici Riccardi,
